Trader Joe’s Espresso Pillows are not your typical fibrous and woody chocolate covered whole espresso bean. Instead they’re a delicious and dreamy espresso pellet (for lack of a better word) coated in a pillow of dark chocolate. I’d rest my head on them if I could. After inhaling my first can, I slowed down a bit to investigate exactly what was inside. It most closely resembles a hard toffee or brittle type candy with bits of espresso mixed in. Not sure how much of a caffeine charge I’m getting from these, but even the pick-me-up I got from them on a recent (and very long) road trip with three children was a placebo, it’s a yummy one. Speaking of offspring, even my young offspring love them, so it’s a nice portable bribery tool… uh, I mean reward for good behavior if I’m in a pinch. I think putting a window in the tin was a good move on TJ’s part. Was it not for the window, I wouldn’t have had any idea what they meant by ‘pillow’ and I might not have tried them. I don’t know if these are new or if I’m just noticing them for the first time, but they’re my favorite ‘new’ treat at TJs.
