Ingredients: 1 box of Trader Joe’s Pie Crust (room temp) Filling 2 Tablespoons of Trader Joe’s unsalted butter 2 12oz bottles of Trader Joe’s Marello Cherries drained (Save 3/4 cup of juice) 4 tablespoons of cornstarch 1 1/2 cup of Trader Joe’s organic sugar 1 Tablespoon of Trader Joe’s almond extract Brushed Topping 1/4 cup of Trader Joe’s slivered almonds 2 tablespoons of Trader Joe’s milk 2 tablespoons of Trader Joe’s organic sugar Whipped cream (optional) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. In a saucepan, whisk reserved cherry juice, cornstarch, sugar, almond extract, and butter until thickened. Add drained cherries and set to the side. Remove pie crust from package and place bottom crust into a 9 inch pie dish/tin. Trim extra dough by cutting around the rim of the dish with a knife. Pour the delicious cherry filling into the pie dish/tin. Add the upper layer of dough to the top of the pie. Trim off excess dough and pinch the edges of the dough around the dish to form a seal. Cut several slits in the top of the pie and set aside. Heat milk, sugar, and almonds in a sauce pan until boiling. Cook for 3 minutes while constantly stirring. Brush the top of the pie with this wonderful topping. Sprinkle more almonds on top of pie if desired. Place pie onto a cookie sheet and bake in the center rack of the oven for 30 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Let pie cool for two hours before serving for best results. Top with whipped cream and enjoy! This is a perfect recipe for impressing freinds and family.
