November 2008: Recipe Contest Winner

nov08_winner.jpgFabulous everyone!!! Trying November’s recipes was absolutely delightful. We found a true winner that has earned a place in our own recipe notebooks, second place winner that was even better gobbled up cold as leftovers the next day and a third that inspired some experimenting, which proved the original recipewas definitely to be followed.

Big thanks to our Sponsor ALMONDINA COOKIES — "The Delicious Cookie without the Guilt" — Grab some above the freezer case. Your waistline will thank you.

And… we threw in 2 of our cans of the very superb 100% Moloka’i Coffee.

Peruvian Stew

Spicy, hearty, fresh tasting … OUR SPIN: We sauteed the onions, skipped the peppers & broth, emptied in a bag of Chimichurri Rice (found in the freezer), added a can of garbanzo beans, added chicken cubes and heated it all up. Served with dollops of Fage Greek yogurt, a generous handful of fresh chopped cilantro and the naan. Just amazing. So delicious. So easy!

Sweet and Sour Cabbage Apple Delight

Not a lot of work since Trader Joe’s sells bagged shredded cabbage. Serve this up with some nice pork or chicken. The recipe calls for cherries and cranberries — use Trader Joe’s Golden Berry Blend (raisins, cherries, cranberries& blueberries) — splendid! It was good made warm but oh, so good the next day, cold, marinated. Yum.

Saturday Morning Cinnamon Rolls

We got inspired… Made some as recipe calls for, added raisons in others, added pecans in still others and finally make some mixed. To be honest, the "snails" would not hold, even after pinching the dought, so we made a bunch of knots by twisting a long piece and pinching the ends together. Turned out the plain ones were THE best! And make sure you remember the butter in the bottom and on top — heavenly. So…. one negative. It is pizza dough. A little on the tough side. Don’t break a tooth!
