Back in March, I posted my review of Trader Joe’s Banana Crisps praising their sweet taste, satisfying starchiness and crispy lightness. I marvelled how amazing these “banana babies” were with the 40 calories and 1 gram of fat per one ounce serving (2/3 cup).
Since that time, many fans posted their own fondness for these treats as well as a healthy dose of suspicion regarding the packaging. Turns out, results from 2 independent labs (one of which I called personally — CompuFood in Ohio) show these crisps actually have FOUR times the calories and SIX times the fat.
“Trader Joe’s voluntarily removed off shelves all banana crisps due to a nutritional content mislabeling on the package. The banana crisps will return shortly once the nutritional panels are updated. Customers are welcome to return this product to any Trader Joe’s location for a full refund or exchange.”
We want to thank bananalover for the detailed information she submitted here:
Hello everyone,
I am truly sorry to report this. I, too was a banana crisp lover. too much in fact that my boss and I bought cases and cases whenever we could find the stuff. However we have been on a diet since january and Ive lost about 32 pounds she has lost 60 + she had a baby…anyway and since we had been eating these banana crisps…nothing we stayed the same and even gained. So we became very suspicious so My boss paid 150 bucks to a company called Compu-food in Ohio and off a bag of lovely banana crisps went. Then 10 business days later this is what we were told the results were to our dismay….

Thats more than 4 times the amount of the calories they say they have and the fat grams times 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless we say we called The TJ’s regional west coast store in Los Angeles and they said they were aware of the problem they were being retested. And so we returned all of our cases minus the ones in our bodies 🙁 sorry to say..>I hope they redo them and turn out just as good…
